Paris – Argos Wityu, lower mid-market private equity firm Argos Wityu has been named “Western Europe Private Equity House of the Year” by ACQ Finance Magazine.

ACQ Finance Magazine Global Awards recognize outstanding performance achieved by financial institutions and advisors. Winners are selected by an in-house panel and the magazine’s readers. Last year Argos Wityu was named “Swiss Private Equity House of the Year.”

In an extremely difficult environment for Private Equity in general, this award reflects a successful 12 months for Argos Wityu. In 2008, the group invested in four companies (Mertz and Lexsi in France, Kägi in Switzerland, and Bellco in Italy) and completed five exits (Dorotennis, Cansimag and Jaybeam Wireless in France, Roland Murten in Switzerland, and GPP in Italy).

The success of Argos Wityu’s investment strategy reflects its ability to structure complex deals (such as management buy-ins and spin-offs), a hands-on approach to portfolio companies and a value creation model based around a partnership with management and real operational improvements rather than just financial engineering.

“The basis of our buy-outs is the relationship between the firm and the portfolio company management team” said Guy Semmens, Partner. “It’s not just finance; it is strategic change and operational improvement that drives returns at the smaller end of the market. It is the reason why we have tried to avoid auctions. The more efficient auction processes become, the less it is possible to define your strategy and form that all important alignment of interest with management.”
