Orgelet and Paris, July 25th, 2018 – Juratoys, company based in Orgelet (Jura), French leader in the conception, creation and distribution of design and educative toys, announces the arrival of the European private equity group Argos Wityu as majority shareholder, alongside the management team. Alex Brands, an American toy company and shareholder of 100% of the capital since May 2015, sells its entire stake in the group.
Argos Wityu will partner with Juratoys to facilitate its growth in the rapidly evolving high-range and educative toy market. The aim is to implement a strong innovation policy to launch new collections every year, and to expand the range of toys under the existing Janod and Kaloo brands, which have a strong reputation. The goal is also to increase international sales and to continue to develop a robust multichannel distribution network. In addition, Juratoys will benefit from increased flexibility to complete buildup operations via the acquisition of companies with complementary activities.
Ludovic Martin, Juratoys’ President, who joined the company in 2007, will lead the current teams in this new development phase. He states: “With Argos Wityu, Juratoys opens a very positive new page of its history through its partnership with a financial shareholder who shares the same values and vision of the development potential of our company in a rapidly changing worldwide toy market. A financial shareholder who, beyond its financial contribution, will enhance our know-how thanks to its expertise in the valuation of our premium brands at an international level.”
Gilles Lorang, Argos Wityu’s Partner, underlines that: “Juratoys is a great French SME exporter which over the last few years has been successful in its growth strategy. It is led by a talented management team with whom we are happy to partner to strengthen the soul of the company: its ability to innovate with new highquality toys, distributed all around the world.”
Founded nearly 50 years ago (in 1970), Juratoys develops and distributes Janod (wooden toys) and Kaloo (plush) brands, well-known for their design, for the quality of materials used and for their educative value which contributes to child awareness. It also distributes international toy brands exclusively in France and Belgium.
Juratoys which manages around 1,000 references under its own two brands, has an intensive innovation policy and develops more than 200 new products each year.
Juratoys relies on a robust multi-channel distribution network in France and overseas. It comprises distributors, specialized retailers (except major food retailers) and e-commerce players. The company also operates through its 5 subsidiaries in Spain, United-Kingdom, Germany, United-States and in China, where the toy market is growing strongly.
Its revenue has increased 5-fold in 10 years. 40% of the current revenue is realised overseas. Today, the Janod and Kaloo brands are commercialised in 60 countries.
In 2010, the company had 60 employees compared to 140 today. There are 80 employees in France, of which a majority are in the headquarters in Orgelet (Jura), with a further 60 people working in the subsidiaries. Since its creation, Juratoys has used a network of partner subcontractors for production and logistics. These partners are selected according to high-quality standards, so that the company can retain its dynamism through collection renewal and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
