Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Your age, your family situation and the country you live in?
My name is Afif Chebaro, and I am 27 years old. I am Lebanese, and I currently live in Paris.
Tell us about your career and how you joined Argos?
I started with a bachelor’s in finance at the American University of Beirut (AUB). I then spent a year in private equity before joining PwC, where I worked in M&A. Following this experience, I decided to come to France. I also wanted to take a step back and reflect on my career, which is when I decided to pursue an MBA at INSEAD. I then moved to Paris and joined Argos.
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
I have always been interested in private equity, and I knew that I would get back to it somewhere along the way. The most interesting part for me is the involvement we have in almost every part of the business and the company’s growth trajectory. Following my previous experience and the time I spent in the INSEAD MBA programme, I also realised how important the entrepreneurial spirit is for me, which is what naturally brought me to Argos Wityu.
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
It is a very broad area of business, and this is even more true today. From my point of view, the essence of private equity (and especially at Argos) is looking for a company with an interesting story and promising potential, then going on a journey alongside the founders and/or managers of the business, to unlock this potential. While achieving good financial returns remains important, private equity is much more than that.
What is the feeling that guides you most in your daily life?
The many things that I still want and plan to do in life.
What encounter - or moment - stands out in your time at Argos?
It is not an encounter as much as a realisation that you are given the opportunity at Argos to do what you really love and the room to take initiatives that could leave a real impact on the group.
Some say we are the average of the people we meet. What do you think?
I have a tight-knit group of friends with whom I share almost every milestone of my life. We definitely influence and support each other. I have always been the funny, goofy guy of the group. Not many people see this side of me.
How do you find balance in your life as a whole?
The way I see it is that when you find a job that you love and that motivates you to come to work every day, it becomes part of your life. When it does, it is more about giving each part of your life the time and effort it needs rather than having a separate view of your professional vs personal life.
” … I also realised how important the entrepreneurial spirit is for me, which is what naturally brought me to Argos Wityu. “
Do you have a special place that reflects who you are, that inspires you and contributes to your balance?
There’s a place in Beirut, my hometown, where you have a view of the whole city and the Mediterranean Sea. Peaceful, relaxing and where you literally feel on top of the world.
Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?
I love discovering new music, and I think it plays an important role in my life. Having competed more times than I can count in national and regional swimming competitions, this sport remains my go-to activity to this day. I also love outdoor activities like climbing and rappelling, and I never say no to a camping trip.
