Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Alessio
I was born in England but have lived most of my life in Italy. I am married with two children (and a dog), and we live in Milan.
Tell us about your career and how you joined Argos.
Alessio
I started in 2001 in corporate finance, although ever since my university studies, my aim was to enter the private equity world. After three years in the consulting business, Argos offered me a scholarship to attend a master’s programme focused on private equity. At the end of the programme I joined the Argos team (2004). I am now a partner in the Milan office.
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
Alessio
I can say without a doubt that since my studies were focused on private equity, this path has been the natural one for me.
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
Alessio
There has been a constant professionalisation of this industry, but the fundamentals are still the same. If I had to give a definition, I would define private equity as a smart way to put money to work and contribute to the overall improvement of the business, for the benefit, therefore, of all stakeholders.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Alessio
Every day there is a new business to analyse, a fresh opportunity to raise our knowledge.
What encounter - or moment - stands out in your time at Argos?
Alessio
There is no specific moment, every acquisition is to be considered a special moment in my journey within this firm.
You interact daily with managers. Is there an entrepreneur you admire in the market?
Alessio
I have met many entrepreneurs in my personal career and my takeaway is that they all have a skill, a capability that I would like to have; there is no one that inspires me most. I am still searching for my Leonardo da Vinci!
Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?
Alessio
If you love your job, as I do, I think that is the perfect balance for your life.
Do you have a special place that reflects who you are, that inspires you and contributes to your balance?
Alessio
A mix between Milan in Italy where I live and Findon Valley in South Sussex (UK) near where I was born.
“Argos offered me a scholarship to attend a master’s programme focused on private equity At the end of the programme I joined the Argos team.”
How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Alessio
I see myself still running out there to catch new business opportunities.
In another life, you would be... ?
Alessio
A car designer.
