Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Your age, your family situation and the country you live in?
Sanika
I’m originally from Mumbai, India, and I currently live in Paris. I initially came here to do a Master’s degree two years ago and I’ve been here ever since.
What path led you to Argos and the position you hold today?
Sanika
I’ve always believed in the power of finance to drive change for the planet. Finance is a major lever for making impactful things happen, and I am proud to be part of a private equity firm focused on sustainability. My journey began at a sustainability advisory firm in Mumbai, which deepened my commitment to this field. When I came across Argos’s work, particularly the Climate Action Fund, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
Sanika
Not at all. My academic journey began with social sciences, exploring sociology and feminist theories. While I was passionate about creating positive change for the planet and humanity, I never imagined I would end up in private equity.
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
Sanika
To me, private equity is a unique opportunity to create tangible, on-the-ground impact. As fund managers, we’re in a privileged position to drive meaningful and long-lasting change.
The feeling that guides you the most in your daily life?
Sanika
A deep sense of gratitude for being on this beautiful planet, with a strong sense of responsibility to mitigate human-induced climate change.
What encounter - or moment - has marked your journey at Argos?
Sanika
The interview process. Each stage reaffirmed my desire to join this firm. My manager and the partners were kind and humble, and they created a comfortable environment even as they posed difficult questions.
To describe yourself further: It is said that we are the average of the people we meet. Who do you think they are and how do they influence you?
Sanika
My immediate family, friends and colleagues have profoundly shaped my worldview and my sense of what’s possible.
In a more general way, is there a person you admire, who inspires you on a daily basis? (e.g. writer, artist, politician, etc.)
Sanika
Of late, I’ve been very inspired by Leena Nair, the Indian-origin global CEO of Chanel, whose journey exemplifies resilience, leadership and breaking down barriers on the global stage. Similarly, Marie Curie’s pioneering contributions to science and her unwavering dedication to advancing humanity continue to inspire me profoundly. Both women represent a blend of ambition, purpose and a commitment to excellence that resonates deeply with me.
How do you find balance in your life as a whole?
Sanika
Finding balance often feels like chasing a mirage – something I’m still working on. In practice, I tend to work in focused, intense bursts, aiming to deliver specific results. This approach extends to everything I do, whether it’s preparing for a marathon, planning a family vacation, or cooking a memorable meal.
Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?
Sanika
I’m deeply passionate about bringing people together through the joy of good food, creating spaces where they can connect and find comfort. Being from India, I have a special love for Indian cuisine, which is rich in complexity and history, yet often under-explored in its depth. I enjoy learning about its nuances, particularly from the perspective of sociology and molecular gastronomy, which I find fascinating.
”To me, private equity is a unique opportunity to create tangible, on-the-ground impact. As fund managers, we’re in a privileged position to drive meaningful and long-lasting change.“
How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Sanika
Probably still working in private equity while managing an agriculture-based side hustle.
Do you have a place to share with us that reflects you? A place that inspires you and contributes to your balance?
Sanika
Mumbai, the city where I was born and raised, has been the backdrop to most of my life. It’s a place of striking contrasts – vibrant yet chaotic, resilient yet unforgiving. While its imperfections are undeniable, so is its magic as a city of dreams, where possibilities are endless and aspirations find a way to thrive. Mumbai has a way of shaping everyone who experiences it, without exception – sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
In another life, you would be... ?
Sanika
A farmer-restaurateur, nurturing the land and crafting dishes from my own harvest, where soil meets soul.
