Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Skyler
My name is Skyler van Wezel. As I was born and raised in Belgium and my parents and family come from the Netherlands, I hold both nationalities. Currently, I live in Antwerp together with my girlfriend.
Tell us about your career and how you joined Argos?
Skyler
After my graduation from the University of Antwerp, I gained experience in sales & trading and M&A at banks in Paris and Brussels. After that, I joined BNP Paribas Fortis as a management trainee and gained additional experience in their M&A and private equity departments. In 2020, I started full time in their private equity team as an investment analyst where I mainly focused on direct minority investments. When I came in contact with the Argos team and learned about their culture and strategy, I was more than convinced about the next step in my career!
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
Skyler
Yes, during my studies I chose a major in finance and a minor in strategy, two topics I have always been passionate about and in my opinion the perfect preparation for my career. I have always wanted a job to which I can bring added value and have a significant positive impact on the various stakeholders involved. At Argos, we work closely every day with managers and entrepreneurs to achieve success together. So I am convinced this is the right place for me.
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
Skyler
In my opinion, private equity goes beyond providing capital. It is about working closely with management and entrepreneurs in order to create value for all stakeholders, bringing companies to the next level and make them future-proof.
What is the feeling that guides you most in your daily life?
Skyler
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
You interact daily with managers. Is there an entrepreneur you admire in the market?
Skyler
Not one in particular. However I believe entrepreneurs in general are engaging people. Many of them have admirable traits such as the ability to take initiative, adapt to change, find creative solutions, persevere and be comfortable with risk. They are often able to see challenges as opportunities, they view failure as a chance to learn, and they let vision drive their actions.
Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?
Skyler
Apart from work, I love spending time with family and friends. Besides that, I play padel during the weekends and have a brown belt in karate. Growing up, I also played the piano. During the winter, I love to go skiing and snowboarding.
