Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Your age, your family situation and the country you live in?
Jie
I was born in China and have been living in Paris for about 10 years. I moved here in my twenties with a Bachelor’s degree and plans to do a Master’s.
Tell us about your career and how you joined Argos.
Jie
After a getting a Master’s degree at ESCP Europe, I worked for four years in Transaction Services in a Big Four firm. The experience in consulting made me want to join a company where I could have a long-term impact, so I was very happy to join Argos.
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
Jie
Not really. I thought I would serve Communism like many Chinese young people!
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
Jie
For me private equity is a win-win balance between entrepreneurs and investors. We are a bridge to pooling resources: company growth and all types of support (not only financial). The ultimate objective of our investments should be something useful to society.
The feeling that guides you the most in your daily life?
Jie
The willingness to do things well.
What encounter - or moment - stands out in your time at Argos?
Jie
Soon I will be a mother for the first time. My co-workers have been enormously supportive of me as I enter this brave new world. Not only have I learnt a lot from them about my job, but also I know I can count on their trust and help for many other things.
Some say we are the average of the people we meet. What do you think? What do you think?
Jie
Confucius said: when three are walking together, one can always find a teacher among the other two. I don’t know if I’m the average, but one thing’s sure: all the people that I’ve met have taught me something or are teaching me something.
Is there a person you admire, who inspires you on a daily basis (e.g. a writer, artist, politician, etc.)?
Jie
Simone Veil, for her courage, humility and the strength she showed in her work.
How do you find balance in your life as a whole?
Jie
I try to organise my schedule in advance to make my days more efficient.
Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?
Jie
I adore swimming and more generally having fun playing sports.
How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Jie
Hopefully more mature than now.
“For me private equity is a win-win balance between entrepreneurs and investors. We are a bridge to pooling resources: company growth and all types of support (not only financial). “
Do you have a special place that reflects who you are, that inspires you and contributes to your balance?
Jie
Maybe a swimming pool. It’s is a place where I can enjoy myself, strengthen my body, improve my skills and most importantly, think without being disturbed.
In another life, you would be... ?
Jie
Definitely a bird, so jealous of their capacity to fly.
