Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Thomas
My name is Thomas Ribéreau.
I was born and grew up in Normandy.
Today, I live between Boulogne-Billancourt and Normandy with my wife, Julie, and my two children, Emile and Hélène.
What path led you to Argos and the position you hold today?
Thomas
After studying at the Ecole Centrale Paris, I lived for 2.5 years in New York, first as a student getting a M.Sc. in Management Science & Engineering from Columbia University and then as a fund manager assistant in a hedge fund at AXA IM.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I then decided to get back to France and to my initial desire to work in private equity, energetically supporting companies as an active investor.
Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?
Thomas
The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?
Thomas
Companies are a key component of our ecosystem. They are at the heart of our economy. They are essential to its balance, and they drive growth. They can also bring about changes in the way we live, behave and consume. Besides, being the son and grandson of entrepreneurs, I am convinced that these companies – and small and mid-sized companies in particular – need capital and human support to develop faster and better.
Private equity means partnering with companies and investing capital in them to support their ambitious development plans. We are on their side, helping them to grow further, faster and better. Successful PE investments are only possible when our portfolio companies get to position themselves on a sustainable growth trend. That is what drives me in my work.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Thomas
What encounter - or moment - has marked your journey at Argos?
Thomas
To describe yourself further: It is said that we are the average of the people we meet. Who do you think they are and how do they influence you?
Thomas
You interact daily with managers. Is there an entrepreneur you admire in the market? In a more general way, is there a person you admire, who inspires you on a daily basis? (e.g. writer, artist, politician, etc.)
Thomas
” Private equity means partnering with companies and investing capital in them to support their ambitious development plans.“
How do you find balance in your life as a whole?
Thomas
Thanks to my wife and my kids who keep reminding me what is important.
And thanks to a lot of yoga.
